VPN Check: Is Your VPN Working?

This page tests your current connection and shows whether websites detect a VPN, proxy or Tor, plus the internet provider and city they see.

How to test your VPN in 30 seconds

  • Disconnect the VPN and note the operator and city shown above.
  • Connect the VPN, wait a few seconds and press "Check again".
  • The operator should now be a hosting company or your VPN brand, and the location should match the server you chose.

What a VPN does not hide

A VPN replaces your public address, but DNS requests, WebRTC in the browser and logged-in accounts can still reveal who you are. Use the VPN's leak protection options and keep the browser updated.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my VPN is actually working?

+

Run this check with the VPN off and note your city and internet provider. Turn the VPN on and check again. If the provider and location change to the VPN's server, the tunnel is working. If your own provider or home city still shows, traffic is leaking outside the VPN.

Why does the check say no VPN while my VPN is on?

+

Some VPN providers use residential or less-known address ranges that are not yet listed as VPN exits. If your provider and location changed, you are still protected even when the VPN flag reads No.

Can websites see that I use a VPN?

+

Often, yes. Sites compare your address against lists of known VPN, proxy and hosting ranges. A VPN hides your real address, but it does not always hide the fact that you use one.
